So, instead of digging through piles of obfuscated code that gets reshuffled with each update, I did the most straightforward thing: I injected my code into Proxygen's Java part. This means that the Java classes that interface with the native code can't be obfuscated. Since Proxygen is written in C++, it needs JNI bindings to be used in an Android app. Instagram, as, probably, all the other Facebook apps, uses Proxygen for its HTTP client. Two middle-aged women who were paralyzed from spinal injuries at least five years ago can move their legs again after having the Abbott device implanted to deliver epidural spinal cord stimulation, the study report says. 22 study report in the Journal of Neurotrauma says. "We chose to disseminate our novel discoveries at this early stage as the significant motor and autonomic findings have immediate implications" for general perceptions about the therapy, the Jan. The magnitude of autonomic changes and movement abilities early on prompted the team to publish an initial report on their first two patients. Ann Parr, a lead investigator with E-Stand and assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of Minnesota.Į-Stand aims to enroll about 100 people with paralysis who are willing to have a spinal cord stimulator made by Abbott Laboratories implanted experimentally in their backs. "In people who have mid-thoracic injuries, the thing that comes up near the top of the list every time is actually bowel and bladder," said Dr. "Volitional movements" means being able to move your legs on purpose, while " autonomic functions" refers to functions governed by autonomic nervous system largely without conscious thought, such as regulating blood pressure, urination, and sexual arousal.Īlthough restoring a person's ability to walk may make for great TV, restoring autonomic functions tops the priorities list for many people with paralysis, E-Stand investigators say. Learning to walk again would be great, but for many people with paralysis, shorter bathroom sessions would be a banner achievement.Īn ongoing clinical study at Minneapolis hospitals called E-Stand is reporting early success using an implantable medical device designed in Minnesota called a spinal cord stimulator to restore volitional movement and autonomic functions in patients paralyzed from the mid-back down. The show was animated in Ireland by Brown Bag Films for its first four series. The show's subject matter has been compared to that of Star Trek and Thunderbirds blended with Jacques Cousteau. Although its technology is fictional, the exotic creatures and locations that the crew encounter are based on real marine animals in their natural habitats. The show follows an underwater exploring crew made up of stylized anthropomorphic animals, a team of eight adventurers who live in an undersea base, the Octopod, from which they go on undersea adventures with the help of a fleet of aquatic vehicles. Octonauts is an animated children's television series, produced by Silvergate Media for the BBC channel CBeebies, and based on the children's books written by Vicki Wong and Michael C. The Creature Cases may look like it's just another preschool show that is all about solving cases but this absolutely a really cute show to watch and the relationship between Sam and Kit really carried it.Left to right: Kwazii, Barnacles, and Peso And I get interesting characters like Wally who looks more like a comic relief character Barb the scorpion who has the tough girl look and is almost reminded of Miss Tarantula from The Bad Guys and finally Roxy Raider the raccoon who would have been such an interesting villain character and she has potential to return on future seasons. Obviously, there are no fight scenes or arresting animals but at least I get to learn more about the facts files of the animals although it's pretty repetitive all the time. They have a really good relationship and it almost has the Nick and Judy vibe from Zootopia but both predators with different subfamilies However, as with the usual preschool show the story is just okay I guess. Most notable are Kit Casey who is sometimes a sloth who takes things dirty and Sam Snow who sometimes takes things organized and clean. But they absolutely share the same bond with one another and show they mostly treat each other. Not only did they both work together in C. But it's not just the character designs of Sam and Kit that really got my attention it is actually the bond between those two characters. I really love how the creators of Octonauts made those characters and they looked really good. Two of the designs that really got my attention are Sam Snow and Kit Casey. There are so many kids shows to count on Netflix and most of the kid's shows aimed at preschool children only got my interest once I discovered The Creature Cases. The voice acting is well done, and the stories are full of action as well as comedy, making this a neat edutainment show for little ones. Aside from Sam and Kit, the series has memorable characters like Bill and Jill, the Mice Squad who serve as the ones who find the missions for the duo, as well as at the end of each episode, have a segment called Fact File talking about an animal in said episode (which is like Octonauts' own Creature Report segment), and the Stinkwells, twin skunks who make the pair's gear (and serve as an occasional fart joke, which thankfully, is kept to one per appearance). This series chronicles the pair's missions, given by their boss, Director Scratch, cracking mysteries centered around animals and what happened. The series focuses on Sam Snow, a snow leopard, and Kit Casey, a fox, who are agents for CLADE, the Covert League of Animal Detective Experts. The Creature Cases is another in Netflix's long line of preschool shows, and if you or your child are fans of Octonauts, you will like this. If this is true, I think we have crimes to relieve every possible suppressed desire-or at least all the normal ones. There are those who say that the reading of a mystery or suspense story has a therapeutic value cleansing one of his homicidal tendencies and allowing him to enjoy those crimes he has always wanted to commit but didn't because he lacked the get-up-and-go. I don't think I'm giving away any secrets when I tell you that in most of these stories somebody does do it So don't say you haven't been warned. It might better be called a When's-he-gonna-do-it. After all, this is a highly toxic book.Ī suspense story is not simply a Who-done-it. If you want to sample another, help yourself, but be careful. Now turn out all the lights you possibly can, look over the stories and take one before retiring. The book is full of suggestions of how this can be accomplished. If there are people there, get rid of them. (My final parenthetical remark: the only things I know of that actually like to curl up with a good book are the silverfish in my basement.) When you begin reading, may I suggest you choose a time when you are alone in the house. I much prefer that you feel that this dinner guest to whom you are opening your home is a complete stranger and that there is no policeman within screaming distance.Īnd now, if you are anxious to curl up with a good book, perhaps we should be getting on. I believe it was Henry James who observed, when speaking of prefatory pieces such as this, that when a work of creative literature is introduced to the reader at great length, when fiction is too carefully interpreted, explained and annotated, it is like having a dinner guest brought to the house by a policeman. I don't wish to spend too much time introducing these tales. I am confident that several of these cheerful little stories will put an end to the loose talk about truth being stranger than fiction. Furthermore there are a number of cases which defy classification since the characters meet their ends in highly original ways, having little or no known precedent. You will find mentioned herein: a knifing or two, suffocation, cremation, bludgeoning, one or two stranglings, a few drownings and some shootings. If this is true, I think we have crimes to relieve every possible suppressed desire - or at least all the normal ones. I don't think I'm giving away any secrets when I tell you that in most of these stories somebody does do it. I very much hope that you will too.Ī suspense story is not simply a Who-done-it. The stories in this volume have only one reason for being here and that is explained in the title. Most prefaces soon become defensive, disintegrate into lengthy explanations of why certain stories have been chosen, and the anthologists quickly become apologists. Of course I don't believe my friend charges for the books he sends, but no matter. Recently it occurred to me that through television I have spent many Sunday evenings in your homes yet I have never thanked you properly.

Shallow exclusions for fast development § 6 If you want to wrap your built file so it can be used in pages that do not have an AMD loader like RequireJS, see the Optimization FAQ. Once that optimization is done, you can change the script tag to reference "main-built.js" instead of "require.js", and your optimized project will only need to make one script request. Since "require" is a reserved dependency name, you create a "requireLib" dependency and map it to the require.js file. paths.requireLib=././require name=main include=requireLib out=main-built.js If you want to include require.js with the main.js source, you can use this kind of command: node. Then, you can change the main-built.js file name to just main.js so the HTML page will load the optimized version of the file. Change the out= option to any directory you like, that has a copy of your source. Normally you would save them to a copy of your project, but to make this example easier it is saved with the source. Normally you should not save optimized files with your pristine project source. This will create a file called appdirectory/scripts/main-built.js that will include the contents of main.js, one.js, two.js and three.js. /r.js -o name=main out=main-built.js baseUrl=. Use the above example setup, if you just wanted to optimize main.js, you could use this command, from inside the appdirectory/scripts directory: node. In other words, the mainConfigFile configuration has the lowest priority. The precedence for config: command line, build profile, mainConfigFile. Or: define(, function (a, b) ) found in that file will be parsed out and used as part of the configuration options passed to the optimizer: mainConfigFile: 'path/to/main.js' So, it will not find modules that are loaded via a variable name: var mods = someCondition ? : īut 'a' and 'b' will be included if specified like so: require() The optimizer will only combine modules that are specified in arrays of string literals that are passed to top-level require and define calls, or the require('name') string literal calls in a simplified CommonJS wrapping. The optimizer is part of the r.js adapter for Node and Nashorn, and it is designed to be run as part of a build or packaging step after you are done with development and are ready to deploy the code for your users.
The kid tells Santa that if he's really Santa, he'll bring him the expensive jet plane toy and leave it under his Christmas tree at home-and gives him his address on 10th avenue. The boy admits he dreams of becoming a pilot when he grows up but this feels too far fetched to believe in. Sears asks him why he doesn't believe in Santa Claus but the kid remarks that people in his neighborhood don't get gifts at Christmas. Sears hears himself warning the kid about the future with the same words Miss Webster used to describe his own limited future. Sears recognizes what the kid is up to-and asks him to unload the pockets from his oversized coat. Sears sees a bit of himself in this street tough.Įventually the wise guy returns to the toy department and Sears exchanges a few more words with him. The children step up to sit on his lap, he writes down what each one wants, and he hands the note to their parents. Sears continues his job as the department store Santa Claus. Sears' bitter worldview is confirmed by the store's efficient approach to using Santa to sell its toy inventory. There's a real juxtaposition between Sears' inner dialogue and the spirit of Christmas. This episode's tone is light with comedic moments throughout. Not all the children are convinced that this Santa is on the up and up! The cynical man knows all this manipulating won't keep him from doing what comes naturally to him. Sears bristles under the restraint and control. She reminds him how much she believes in him and hopes he enjoys his work. She also picks him up after work each day to drive him to the men's shelter. To help keep him from temptation, Miss Webster collects Sears' paycheck and deposits it straight into the bank for him. She was also one of Jack Webb's regular troupe members on Dragnet. Miss Webster is played by character actor Virginia Gregg. (He was also on the short-lived series Casey Jones with Alan Hale.) This young man who doesn't believe in Santa is played by child actor Bobby Clark. But the kid admits he doesn't believe in Santa Claus anyway. Sears asks him what he'd like and he replies that he'd like the expensive toy jet plane hanging on display overhead. He's a wise guy-already certain that Santa won't bring him what he wants for Christmas. Several of them are a bit frightened of the scruffy Sears and his version of Santa Claus. Most of the children are typical kids filled with the innocent excitement of the holiday. The already bitter Sears is disappointed in the role of the modern Santa Claus. He's also supposed to take notes on what each child asks for-and help the parents with the list of what to buy. The store has instructed him to push certain toys in inventory that they need to sell this holiday season. The Irish character actor was in quite a few notable films-but you may recognize him as the elderly Father Fitzgibbon in Going My Way with Bing Crosby. Sears talks his way out of the awkward theft situation and begins visiting with the children in line to talk to Santa Claus.Īctor Barry Fitzgerald plays the world weary Stretch Sears. (The implication is that he was stealing store merchandise). Sure enough, on his first day of work, Sears is caught stuffing silver serving trays under his Santa Claus suit. Not exactly the role he would have chosen for himself, Stretch decides to pursue the path of least resistance and goes along with it. When Sears reports for work at the department store, he sees that he's been assigned duty as the store Santa Claus. Sears and Miss Webster talk about his future. But in voice-over narration we hear Sears' dark and pessimistic attitude about his chances of going straight. She reminds the aging Sears that he'll end up returning to prison (maybe for the rest of his life) if he doesn't try harder to take advantage of the opportunities they offer him. Miss Webster has gotten him a job at a local department store to help him acquire skills to invest in his future. She is an optimistic person who believes she can help rehabilitate Mr. Chambers introduces him to an employment counselor Miss Webster who works in the office. In "Santa Claus and the 10th Avenue Kid," viewers meet career criminal Stretch Sears after his release from prison as he visits his parole officer. After all, “zero, two-hundred” (0200), “fourteen-thirty” (1430) and “twenty-three hundred” (2300) all sound more like money instead of time, right? In certain countries, 24-hour time is referred to as military time, since this is the time format used by militaries (and other entities) around the world, where unambiguous time measurement is particularly important.Unless you work in an international industry, such as a global airline, most Americans never fully grasp military time. The hours from 0-11 denote what would be the AM hours on a 12-hour clock, while hours 12-23 denote the PM hours of a 12-hour clock. 1100 Military Time is converted as 11:00 AM Regular Time. On digital clocks and watches, "AM" stands for ante meridiem, meaning "before midday," while "PM" stands for post meridiem, or "after noon." By convention, 12 AM denotes midnight, while 12 PM denotes noon.
